Sauder Schelkopf attorneys have handled high impact lawsuits in the pursuit of social justice and in order to protect individual civil rights.  Our attorneys have fought for social and economic injustice, the environment, and routinely challenge corporate misconduct.

Civil Rights:

  • Sauder Schelkopf attorneys have represented pre-trial detainees in two civil rights class action settlements involving unlawful strip searches. These two cases settled for a total of $5.4 million.
  • Our attorneys represented a class of 900 employees, many of whom were legal immigrants, fired without notice.
  • Our attorneys also brought a class action on behalf of pregnant women who were misled into believing they could only deliver their babies at Tenet hospitals. The allegations were related to a $513 million settlement with the federal government over kickbacks for referrals of pregnant immigrants.

Juvenile Justice:

  • We currently represent hundreds of individuals whose rights were violated while they were detained in a juvenile detention facility. Sauder Schelkopf and co-counsel filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of current and former students of The Glen Mills Schools who allege that they were physically and mentally abused while attending the School.

Sexual Abuse:

  • Sauder Schelkopf, and co-counsel, recently reached a $215 million settlement on behalf of female patients of Dr. George Tyndall, a gynecologist at the University of Southern California accused of sexual misconduct since the 1990s.
  • We have represented survivors of clergy sexual abuse in dioceses throughout the country.
  • We have a class action lawsuit pending on behalf of males who were victims of sexual misconduct by Dr. Richard Strauss, the Ohio State team doctor, while they were students and student-athletes at Ohio State University.
  • We serve as court-appointed Interim C0-Counsel representing former students of the University of Michigan who were victims of sexual misconduct by Dr. Robert E. Anderson, former director of University Health Service, and a former athletic team physician, who worked at the University of Michigan from 1968 until his retirement in 2003.
  • Sauder Schelkopf filed a class action lawsuit against Dr. Patrick Sutton and Huntington Memorial Hospital located in Pasadena, California on behalf of women who were subjected to sexual misconduct by Sutton, a gynecologist at the hospital.

Women's Rights:

  • We filed the first class action lawsuit in the country against Allergan on behalf of women who had recalled breast implants and our firm was court appointed to serve on the steering committee.
  • We represented women in a lawsuit against Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc. related to the manufacture and sale of its fertility drug, Bravelle. It was alleged that over an 18 month period Ferring knew or had reason to know that Bravelle was sub-potent and could not deliver on its promised benefits.
  • We represent women who were implanted with Essure, a female birth control device. It is alleged that the devices migrated and fractured, punctured internal organs or caused other injuries.
  • We serve as counsel to a class of patients of Pacific Fertility Center who allege their frozen eggs and embryos were impacted by a cryopreservation tank failure at PFC’s San Francisco clinic in early March 2018.
