Sauder Schelkopf is investigating a potential lawsuit against the American School for the Deaf, the main campus, now in West Hartford, and at the school’s Camp Isola Bella summer facility in Salisbury, Conn. On Feb 21, 202, the school issued a statement that reads in part: “In February 2019, the American School for the Deaf (ASD) was made aware of allegations made by school alumni of inappropriate physical conduct by former faculty and staff members at ASD and Camp Isola Bella. . . . [T]he investigation identified multiple instances of past sexual abuse, and physical abuse and/or corporal punishment from the 1950’s through the 1980’s.”
Sauder Schelkopf has a nationally recognized sexual misconduct litigation practice. Our former prosecutors have extensive experience representing fighting for victims.
- Sauder Schelkopf and co-counsel filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of current and former students of The Glen Mills Schools who allege that they were physically and mentally abused while attending the School.
- Sauder Schelkopf, and co-counsel, recently reached a $215 million settlement on behalf of female patients of Dr. George Tyndall, a gynecologist at the University of Southern California accused of sexual misconduct since the 1990s.
- We currently represent survivors of clergy sexual abuse in dioceses throughout the country. We have a class action lawsuit pending on behalf of males who were victims of sexual misconduct by Dr. Richard Strauss, the Ohio State team doctor, while they were students and student-athletes at Ohio State University.
