Sauder Schelkopf is investigating a class action against hotel chains on behalf of individuals who have been charged “resort fees.” Resort fees are generally charged for the costs of hotel spas, gyms, pools, and other amenities. They have been charged by numerous hotel chains, including Hilton. The Texas Attorney General sued Hilton over what his office termed “misleading consumers about the true costs of hotel rooms in violation of Texas consumer protection laws.” The Texas AG’s press release states in part, “Hilton has developed a troubling pattern of forcing mandatory fees onto their customers. Worse, consumers are often not fully made aware of these fees, or in some instances they are shown the fees in ways that would be difficult to notice.”
